As the long days of summer lie ahead, the MPavilion team has picked out a range of exciting events to put down in your calendar. From family friendly, to educational and insightful, all the way to the restorative, there truly is something for everyone.
Bug Blitz
Do you have a budding ecologist in your family? Bug Blitz is a program created especially for kids. The hands-on workshop will take attendees to the natural world that awaits all around the MPavilion, teaching kids about the importance of biodiversity, as well as some crafty activities. Fusing science and art, these two workshops are the perfect summer holiday activity.

Nature Crafts and Pet Rocks with Beci Orpin

Our resident artist for the 2019/20 season of MPavlion is Beci Orpin, and she will be hosting not one but two interactive, crafty and thoroughly kid-friendly events in January. Nature Crafts is a crafty and creative workshop where kids will make their own nature mobile using found sticks, twigs and leaves from around the gardens. And in Pet Rocks, kids will get to create their very own pet rock to take home!

Climate Emergency Cinema

More than your average cinema, the Climate Emergency Cinema is powered by people. Co-curated by Transitions Film Festival and the Little Projector Company, this outdoor cinema comes to life as people bicycle to create the power needed for the screening. Join in yourself as a program of short films and award-winning documentaries are shown, each tackling the urgent need for climate action.

Sinkhole

Interpretive performance art coming to life. Sinkhole is an interactive and collaborative art piece, which is the brainchild of Jess Gall, Arini Byng and Rebecca Jensen. Every performance of Sinkhole changes and adapts depending on the participants and people involved, experience choreography combined with improvisation. Still not sure what to expect? That’s ok, the session begins with a workshop by the artists, setting the tone and critical discussion to get into the flow.

Meditate to Live Ambient Guitar

Get fully relaxed and immersed with a meditation session accompanied by ambient guitar performed by Paz. The full body relaxation will be led by yoga teacher Rosie, whose practice combines a mixture of self-care, meditation and collaborations with upcoming musicians.
The soulful sounds of Paz are defined by soundscape recordings from Australian nature – seascapes, mountains and rivers. Feel revived through these healing sounds for the body and mind.

Hattie x Honey Fingers: Botanical Landscape + Honeycomb Vessels

Florist Hattie Molloy and urban beekeeper Nic Dowse of Honey Fingers are coming together for this installation that will activate all the senses while honouring the beauty of nature. The installation references the natural ecosystem, consisting of an exhibition that will put bees and their honeycomb in the limelight. Join on the evening of Thursday 23 January as bees are released from the observation hive, otherwise drop in to see the installation up until Monday 27 January.

MTC at MPavilion

It’s not often you get to peer behind the creative process. All throughout the MPavilion season you can form part of the backdrop as the Melbourne Theatre Company brings its creative vision to life with the NEXT STAGE Writer Program. Live play readings are told across the MPavilion stage with the brightest in playwriting talent.

Green Magazine at MPavilion
For the last weekend in January, we’ll be joined by our friends from Green Magazine for a three-day program of events revolving around sustainability, architecture, design and permaculture. Come down and check our new innovations in solar energy technology, trial electric bikes, and even speed-date a garden expert.
HANS ULRICH OBRIST IN CONVERSATION WITH VICTORIA LYNN
Internationally renowned and culturally iconic, Swiss curator Hans Ulrich Obrist is a figure whose vast body of work and idiosyncratic practices have energised generations of artists, designers, architects and thinkers across disciplines. MPavilion presents Hans Ulrich Obrist in conversation with Tarrawarra Museum’s Victoria Lynn as part of the February 2020 program, responding to the theme of Earth: A Place of Reconciliation, A Reconciliation of Place.
MUSIC IN EXILE PRESENTS AUSECUMA BEATS
Fresh from performing as part of Melbourne Music Week, Ausecuma Beats will bring their joyous and rhythmic grooves to MPavilion. Formed as a combination of musicians from Australia, the Senegambia region, Cuba, and Mali, the group stands for unity and shows its diversity in its musical influences. You’ll get the opportunity to interact and hear stories from these great musicians, as well as some great tunes. Don’t miss it!
