Chunky Move

Chunky Move sits at the frontier of Australian contemporary dance practice, producing ambitious works that challenge the form, facilitate unique artistic collaborations and offer audiences an unparalleled live experience. Founded by Gideon Obarzanek in 1995 as Victoria’s flagship contemporary dance company, Chunky Move has established itself, under Obarzanek’s leadership, as one of the country’s most innovative, awarded and internationally recognised performing arts organisations. Chunky Move has operated under a model of creative porosity since its inception, and is once again entering a bold new era in the lead-up to its twenty-fifth anniversary in 2020.

Wominjeka (Welcome). We acknowledge the Yaluk-ut Weelam as the traditional custodians of the land on which we meet. Yaluk-ut Weelam means ‘people of the river camp’ and is connected with the coastal land at the head of Port Phillip Bay, extending from the Werribee River to Mordialloc. The Yaluk-ut Weelam are part of the Boon Wurrung, one of the five major language groups of the greater Kulin Nation. We pay our respects to the land, their ancestors and their elders—past, present and to the future.
