Abdul Wasay

Abdul Wasay is a 23-year-old student at La Trobe University. Wasay has worked in the gig economy for over two years and aims to raise awareness about workers’ rights in the gig economy. A strong believer in the power of positive workplaces, Wasay regularly participates in advocacy events and campaigns with the Young Workers Centre and trade unions to end driver/rider exploitation. Wasay has collaborated with Eugenia Lim on her ‘ON DEMAND, 2019 work. He is a sports enthusiast and plays soccer and cricket at local clubs.

Wominjeka (Welcome). We acknowledge the Yaluk-ut Weelam as the traditional custodians of the land on which we meet. Yaluk-ut Weelam means ‘people of the river camp’ and is connected with the coastal land at the head of Port Phillip Bay, extending from the Werribee River to Mordialloc. The Yaluk-ut Weelam are part of the Boon Wurrung, one of the five major language groups of the greater Kulin Nation. We pay our respects to the land, their ancestors and their elders—past, present and to the future.
