Alex McQuire (AM) is a Melbourne based fashion designer currently completing her Master of Fashion (Design) at RMIT University.

Looking at the ordinary wardrobe as a site of continual negotiation, Alex explores how value structures are materialised and performed in both fashion and our everyday experience.

Her Masters collection presents a series of fragmented material investigations that insert heavy and fragile items into easy-wear garment archetypes. In reference to a wardrobe that is near routine, Alex explores a dislodged sense of comfort, bringing into view our tendency to hold on to objects and things that present hopeful possibilities, whilst simultaneously wear away at us.

Wominjeka (Welcome). We acknowledge the Yaluk-ut Weelam as the traditional custodians of the land on which we meet. Yaluk-ut Weelam means ‘people of the river camp’ and is connected with the coastal land at the head of Port Phillip Bay, extending from the Werribee River to Mordialloc. The Yaluk-ut Weelam are part of the Boon Wurrung, one of the five major language groups of the greater Kulin Nation. We pay our respects to the land, their ancestors and their elders—past, present and to the future.
