Farah Farouque

Farah Farouque is Board Chair of The Social Studio, a social enterprise tapping into the design talents of people from refugee backgrounds. Based in Collingwood, The Social Studio includes a fashion school and clothing label, and is a place of belonging and creative development for Melbourne’s diverse communities, especially young people.

The Social Studio celebrates is tenth anniversary this year. Farah joined as a founding board member when she was working as a journalist. Until 2012, Farah was a senior writer at The Age, specialising in social affairs and legal policy, politics and the creative arts. In her day job, Farah now shapes public advocacy and campaigns for the national anti-poverty group, the Brotherhood of St Laurence. Farah is also on the board of the Islamic Museum of Australia.

Wominjeka (Welcome). We acknowledge the Yaluk-ut Weelam as the traditional custodians of the land on which we meet. Yaluk-ut Weelam means ‘people of the river camp’ and is connected with the coastal land at the head of Port Phillip Bay, extending from the Werribee River to Mordialloc. The Yaluk-ut Weelam are part of the Boon Wurrung, one of the five major language groups of the greater Kulin Nation.
