Yueqi Meng is a 2018 graduate of the Bachelor of Design (Fashion) and student of the Master in Fashion (Design) at RMIT University.

Yueqi’s work focuses on extending the boundaries of fashion design to alternative materials. Her Masters collection observes the beauty of the mundane and ubiquitous material of polyethylene, used to produce plastic bags.

Her collection explores how this everyday object can be re-used and elevated to the standards of high fashion. Mixing and experimenting with this material promotes awareness of issues of re-use and recycling. Her collection reveals the delicate beauty of waste material to compose a manifesto that advocates for the potential of the plastic bags.

Wominjeka (Welcome). We acknowledge the Yaluk-ut Weelam as the traditional custodians of the land on which we meet. Yaluk-ut Weelam means ‘people of the river camp’ and is connected with the coastal land at the head of Port Phillip Bay, extending from the Werribee River to Mordialloc. The Yaluk-ut Weelam are part of the Boon Wurrung, one of the five major language groups of the greater Kulin Nation. We pay our respects to the land, their ancestors and their elders—past, present and to the future.
