In 2020, Jewel Box Performances returns to MPavilion for a showcase of artists who represent the vibrance, harmony, resilience, diversity and authenticity within music of the African Diaspora. Come and hear tunes that reconcile different cultures, nations, regions, peoples and sounds, and acknowledge our presence as settlers on Indigenous lands.

This Friday Sunset has been curated by Melbourne based audio engineer and creative producer Daisy Nduta. The line up features Gambian kora player Amadou Suso, singer-songwriter Soli Tesema, DJ duo African Love Grass, and headlining is the Afro-funk act Cool Out Sun.

Wominjeka (Welcome). We acknowledge the Yaluk-ut Weelam as the traditional custodians of the land on which we meet. Yaluk-ut Weelam means ‘people of the river camp’ and is connected with the coastal land at the head of Port Phillip Bay, extending from the Werribee River to Mordialloc. The Yaluk-ut Weelam are part of the Boon Wurrung, one of the five major language groups of the greater Kulin Nation. We pay our respects to the land, their ancestors and their elders—past, present and to the future.
