Drop into MPavilion 2019 and engage interior designer Athiqah Ummi Salma’s I’m Drawing You, a performative installation that aims to address metropolitan discrimination and surveillance via life drawing. It consists of forms built to act as boundaries between participants, which simultaneously function as viewing-lenses. Consequently, it invites participants to sketch each other without the other knowing, all the while proposing that life drawing distances us from conventional identity-assumptions, as it requires us, step-by-step, to document separate qualities: movement, gesture, emotion. In engaging participants in this way, I’m Drawing You hopes to allow us the opportunity to build curiously less-affected understandings of each other.
In keeping with MPavilion’s perennial function as a communal and interpersonal hub, we encourage all to take part and investigate how we might better connect through art-making.
This event was programmed by Athiqah Ummi Salma, one of our M_Curators. M_Curators is an MPavilion initiative engaging young makers, doers and planners.
This event is supported by RACV.
